St Ives Bay

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to frequently asked questions about Karrek Lodge, Tolroy Manor and the area in general:

Q.  How close is the property to the beach

A.  Less than 10 minutes drive. The nearest beach to the Karrek Lodge is Hayle Towans which is one and a half miles away.  Then just a few minutes more and you’re at Gwithian Towans, Godrevey, Carbis Bay and many more.

Q. Can I walk to the beach?

A. In theory yes but we wouldn’t advise it.  Firstly, to reach Hayle Towans, you have to walk down a very steep hill and secondly, there’s a small part of the walk where there’s no pavement.  We’ve actually walked it but we didn’t feel that safe in doing so.  Therefore, we would advise you to take the car.  The bonus of taking the car is that you’ll then have a choice of stunning beaches, all within 10-15 minutes drive.

Q. Can I bring my pets?

A. In lower season we may consider this but it depends on the overall number of people and a maximum of 1 dog. So please contact us first.

Q. Is Bedding provided?

A. Yes. We provide all your bedding and the beds are made up prior to your arrival.

Q. Are towels provided?

A. Yes. However, you will need to provide your own beach towels

Q. I don’t want to cook every night. How easy is it to get to a restaurant or takeaway?

A. Really easy! There’s actually a bar and restaurant on the park that as well as providing evening meals,  even provides lovely breakfasts, from full on English to a bacon butty!  Plus just down the hill in Hayle, you’ve got a great selection of restaurants and takeaways.

Q. Can I get my groceries delivered?

A. Yes.  Asda, Sainsbury’s and Tesco’s deliver to the park.

Q. Can I use the pool all year round?

A. I’m afraid not.  The park facilities, including the pool and restaurant are only open from the first week in March until the end of the October half term.  Karrek Lodge is available all year round though.

Q. Do I have to pay extra to use the park facilities?

A. No.  When the park is open, the facilities passes are included.  So you can use the pool, squash and tennis courts and clubhouse as much as you want during your stay, at no extra cost.

Q. Does my cottage have a washing machine?

A. No.  As there’s a launderette on the park, we’ve provided a dishwasher at the cottage instead.

Q. Is Wifi provided

A. Yes. This is free and unlimited. However, its a mobile broadband package, so its not fast but good enough for emails and the odd bit of social media. There’s also unlimited free wifi on the park in the bar, restaurant and clubhouse.

Q. Is there enough to do, even in wet weather?

A. Absolutely.  We’ve provided a list of suggestions at the property and I’ve created a page on this site under the ‘About’ tab, called ‘wet weather days’.  In the 6 years we’ve lived here, we still haven’t run out of things to do as a family. Cornwall is a major holiday destination and as the UK weather can be a tad un-predictable, most venue’s have options for all weathers.

Q. What outside space is there?

A.  Karrek Lodge has a small terrace area with bench seating and also a balcony leading off from the master bedroom, which has additional seating. There’s also plenty of communal lawn and seating areas dotted around the park.

Q. Do I always have to use my car?

A. No.  From Hayle, there’s a train station and you’re on a good bus route.  So you can get to St Ives, Penzance and Truro easily with either option.

Q. What is there for children to do on the park?

A.  As well as the heated indoor swimming pool (which also has regular additional activities you can book), there’s an outdoor play area, table tennis, crazy golf and a tennis court.  Then indoors there’s pool tables, a small arcade, a soft play area for under 5’s and in the clubhouse during the main school holidays, there’s a kids club most mornings and evenings for about an hour.
